UNION CHURCH RESTORATION PROJECT

The Union Church Restoration Project has a goal to return Union Church sanctuary to its original interior characteristics and open the church for community use. The historic structure is owned by Orion Township and the Township Board of Trustees has appointed a seven-person Union Church Governing Board (UCGB) to direct the restoration project led by Project Manager Leslie Pielack.   UCGB chairman is Lisa Sokol, who also is OHS Secretary.  Two other UCGB members are also OHS board members, Mike Sweeney and Alice Young.  Other UCGB members are Morris Cucksey, Mike Gingell, and Jack Kobliska. Orion Historical Society members also volunteer for much of the restoration work.

Since 2002, the Union Church Restoration Project has completed important exterior work.  Various contractors and work groups repaired and painted both the exterior including the steeple, repaired the roof, repaired the foundation and interior flooring.  Work now concentrates on interior sanctuary repair and restoration.

For more information and to volunteer for work on the project,
