Franklin Camp was an outgrowth of Franklin Settlement in 1921. The Settlement was incorporated in 1901, but dates to 1880. The camp was established to provide social fellowship and initiative camping experience to inner city youth.
Camp Franklin included a beach, cabins, aquarium and activities building.
The camp was discontinued in 1992. |

Members of the Orion Historical Society have been storing the Camp Franklin
sign since the 1990's after the camp became part of a new development in
Lake Orion. Eventually the Society chose the offer made by the Shores of
Long Lake Homeowneers Association.
In December of 2004 members of the Society delivered the sign to the Association.
The association has plans to recondition the sign and use it as part of
a new entry to their recreational property. |
